Should I tell my Family?

I’m not sure about telling my family about the fertility challenges that my husband and I are experiencing. We already get the questions, “when are you two going to start a family?” and, “when are we going to hear the pitter patter of little feet?” I swear, if I have to hear my Aunt Tilly tell the story how she and Uncle George were having “issues” (picture the air quotes that she ALWAYS uses) and so they tried different “positions” (again!), I may just lose my mind. So, should I tell them we’re pursuing fertility treatment or will that make matters worse?
-Losing My Mind in Ashburn

Every family is different so unfortunately there is no perfect answer to your question. Some people are very private and choose not to tell anyone about the fertility treatment until they are pregnant and even then, they may not say that it was the result of fertility treatment. Then there are those who tell everyone, including their neighbors and the postman. Sometimes having support from family makes the process easier to bear and sometimes it just raises the level of expectation. You and your husband should discuss this and decide what works best for your individual situation. Every family has its quirks (Aunt Tilly) so you need to figure out what works best for the both of you.

Do I Need Fertility Treatment?

Do I need fertility treatment?

I woke up this morning to realize my monthly period had started…again.  Most women dread this day, as well as the several days that follow it, each month simply because of the burdon that a monthly period can be.  Not me.  This morning it was the sign of another failed month of trying to get pregnant.  I looked at the calendar and knew it was coming. I hoped and prayed that this would be the month that I’d be “late” and would able to do the happy dance in the bathroom when that ridiculously over-priced pee-stick would have an extra line (the digital ones are too expensive when you buy in bulk like I do).
Not this month.
Not last month.
Not the month before that.
~Sigh~
Do I need fertility treatment?

You are not alone.  Thousands of women and couples go through the same struggle each month.  Add to that the possible pressure from family and friends to have children, and you may feel like you’re just a big failure and perhaps a family just isn’t in the cards for you.  Don’t dispair.  Don’t give up.

When you ask yourself the question, “Do I need fertility treatment,” I want you to ask yourself the following questions:

  • If I’m under 35 years old, have I been actively trying to get pregnant for at least a year?
  • If I’m over 35 years old, have I been actively trying to get pregnant for at least 6 months?

If your answer is “Yes,” you should consider seeking fertility treatment.

We want to help you get that extra line on that ridiculously over-priced pee-stick so give us a call and find out what options are available to you.  You are not alone.
