Dr. Mayer is the Director of the Muasher Center for Fertility and IVF Embryology Laboratory. He is a highly regarded clinician and researcher and his work is respected throughout the medical community. Dr. Mayer has trained many embryologists in the US and abroad and serves as a consultant to many IVF programs. He earned his Ph.D. in Reproductive Physiology at Johns Hopkins University where he also completed a Postdoctoral Fellowship in Molecular Biology. He is a member of the Executive Council of the Society for Assisted Reproductive Technologies (SART) having served since 1995. He is currently on the National Board for RESOLVE, a patient's advocacy infertility association.
Dr. Mayer previously served as Laboratory Director of the Hoag Fertility Service Center in Orange County, California. During the four years between 1982 and 1986, he was a member of the clinical embryology team at the Jones Institute.He is also currently Director, of the Jones Institute for Reproductive Medicine Embryology Laboratory and is an Associate Professor at Eastern Virginia Medical School
He has been the featured speaker at numerous conferences on infertility and reproductive medicine. His research efforts received national attention in 1999 when he presented the results of his study on the use of highly purified air in IVF incubators. With the addition of IVF incubator air filters, laboratories around the world have experienced dramatic increases in pregnancy rates. He has also been involved in many research breakthroughs including intracytoplasmic sperm injection.
